§ 14-55. Defective work; dangerous condition; connection; disconnection.

  • (a)

    Notice, compliance. Upon notice from the electrical inspector to any owner, agent or person responsible for any wiring or equipment that is in violation of the provisions of this article or the electrical code, or has become unsafe, said owner, agent or person, shall cease to use the wiring or equipment until such person has completed such changes as may be ordered by the electrical inspector and same have been approved by the inspector. Upon notice from the electrical inspector that any part of the wiring or equipment inspected is not acceptable under the provision of this article or the electrical code, the master electrician in charge, or the owner or agent, shall make the necessary changes, and so notify the inspector.

    (b)

    Stop work orders. The electrical inspector shall have the power to issue stop work orders on any work within the scope of this article or the electrical code when such work is being done contrary to the provisions thereof or in a dangerous or unsafe manner. Such order shall be in writing and shall be given to the owner of such property or to the owner's agent, or to the person doing the work and shall state the conditions under which work may be resumed. Where any emergency exists, oral notice, given by the electrical inspector, shall be sufficient.

    (c)

    Disconnect orders. The electrical inspector shall have the power to order disconnection of any electrical installation or equipment within the scope of this article or the electrical code when such installation of equipment has been installed, or through use has become contrary to the provision thereof or is dangerous or unsafe. Such order shall be given to the owner of such installation or the owner's agent and shall state the conditions under which connection may be resumed. Where any emergency exists, oral notice, given by the electrical inspector, shall be sufficient. In any case of failure to comply, the electrical inspector shall, after due notice, order discontinuance of electrical service to the locality or building concerned and shall enforce said discontinuance until compliance with the requirements.

    (d)

    Notice of violation. In case of violations that, in the opinion of the electrical inspector do not require stop work or disconnect orders, such inspector shall notify the person responsible. Such notice shall state the violation and corrections required, and shall if required, be in writing.

    (e)

    Temporary connection. The electrical inspector may permit temporary connection during the course of construction for temporary light, heat or power, when in such inspector's opinion, such connection is required. The inspector shall determine the period of such requirement and shall at the end of that period, cause the temporary connection to be discontinued.

    (f)

    Refusal of connection. The electrical inspector may refuse to authorize a connection so long as, in such inspector's opinion, any violation of this article or the electrical code exists.
