Latest version.
  • (a)

No horse, mule, cow, hog, goat, or other animal used or fit either for food or labor, shall be permitted to run at large upon the streets, sidewalks, alleys or public grounds in the city. Any such animal found at large within the city shall be taken up and impounded by the impounding officer, or other officer of the city.

    (b)

Each animal so impounded shall be sold by the finance director or his designee, at public outcry, after an advertisement of at least five days in the newspaper in which the city printing is published, giving the time and place of sale. The proceeds of said sale, after paying all costs and expenses thereof, and of taking up and keeping such animal, shall be deposited in the city treasury for six months to await the claim of the owner; at the expiration of which time, if there is no claimant therefor, it shall be used for general city purposes.

    (c)

The owner of such animal may, at any time before the sale, reclaim such stock by paying all costs and expenses of impounding and keeping the same. The fee for taking up and impounding any such animal shall be as established by ordinance, and for keeping the same shall be as established by ordinance.
